Returning From An Unforgettable Artist Residency at Lyndon Institute in Vermont, USA

Elizabeth Greisman is delighted to share that her time as the Barbara Follett Artist-in-Residence at the Lyndon Institute in Vermont, USA throughout April 2026 was an incredibly fulfilling experience.

Read what Dr. Brian Bloomfield, Head of School, had to say about Elizabeth’s residency below:

“Elizabeth’s work reflects the kind of learning we value at Lyndon Institute, grounded in experience, interdisciplinary in nature, and connected to the world beyond the classroom. Residencies like this expand what’s possible for students by putting them in direct contact with professional practice and giving them the opportunity to engage, create, and see themselves in that work.” – Dr. Brian D. Bloomfield, Head of School, Lyndon Institute

More info about the Artist Residency in Elizabeth’s Own Words:

“I spent a superlative month as the Inaugural Barbara Fowlett Artist in Residence at the Lyndon Institute, Vermont, USA, in April, 2026.

I began collaboratively planning the Residency with Art Teacher Elly Barksdale, Headmaster Brian Bloomfield and Dance Teacher Rebecca McGregor of the Lyndon Institute in the early fall of 2025. We formed a working partnership at that time, working through issues such as travel, the project curriculum with the oil painting students, necessary supplies, timing of the residency, accommodation, meals and having a vehicle available. Most important was the planning of the workshops for the students, which centered on art history, different types of portraiture, appropriate skill development for each lesson and follow up individualized investigation. This seminal preparation was completed three months in advance to allow for implementation and modification along the way. I was assisted in the planning of the curriculum by Artist and Educator, Elaine Hoffman.”

“While on campus, I was assisted in meeting other staff and how to integrate with the student body to give them the best experience. My own studio work concentrated on local architecture through abstraction, portraiture appropriate to the lessons and large scale renderings of historic wallpaper, imagined from houses in Lyndonville and St. Johnsbury. My generous hosts included me in outings in the area and I formed a deep love of the magnificent topography and Vermont Culture. I cannot wait to return and complete a study of Canadian style landscape painting.

Becca worked collaboratively and created a painting and sketching platform where I could sketch the dancers.
Elly and I worked hand in hand together our art classes, seamlessly.

I send a huge and heartfelt thanks to all!

I took my integration skills about community living harmoniously which were learned while in Residence at the Vermont Studio Center and on various other residencies, and applied them to this experience.”
