Letter from Beatriz Ventura

“To whom it may concern:
I would like to certify that Canadian visual artist Elizabeth Greisman has interacted with the
Public and Cultural Affairs Section of the Canadian Embassy in Buenos Aires on different
occasions as part of a series of activities originating with an exhibition-fueled art creation
period carried out at BROTA international art residency. Most recently, in 2023 she carried out
a project in connection with the national ballet company of Argentina, also exhibiting and
carrying out a workshop entitled Matrilineal which we incorporated into our International
Women’s Day embassy programming.
Ms. Greisman is an artist who is in permanent pursuit of initiatives which create a continuation
of former periods of her work and of her professional contacts. She also works with a great
perception of the culture she becomes immersed in while working on a project, also displaying
generosity with her time and resources. She is a deeply empathetic observer of the people and
the institutional environments she connects with and always reacts with alacrity when faced
with an opportunity or a challenge regarding a next possible project.
Elizabeth Greisman represents Canada with seriousness and purpose, profiling its social values.”

Vanessa Lee Jones (Ireland) and Elizabeth Greisman (Canada), Visual Artists, Portraiture Painting (Paris, France)

2022-Present

Vanessa and Elizabeth have complementary portraiture styles. They met in the summer of 2022 as Artists in Residence at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris, France.

They went to see by the photographic portraiture exhibition on display on the railings of the
Jardin du Luxembourg , and thus the idea for the collaboration was formed.
The idea of the our historical portraiture project was conceived during an Artist visit to the
Embassy of Ireland, while chatting with the Ambassador about the history of the building ,
named the Hotel Breteuil .

In order to assemble and create the portraits in oils on linen, Vanessa and Elizabeth will work
from historical and present time photographs of the Hotel Breteuil and its inhabitants. This
information will be provided by photographs and relevant descriptions supplied through the
Embassy of Ireland of the two families represented.

Vanessa and Elizabeth will create portraits of individuals who lived at 12, Avenue Foch, Paris,
France previous to the acquisition of the Hotel Breteuil by the Government of Ireland, 1954.
The portraits will be exhibited at the Irish Embassy in Paris, France at Les Journees de
Patrimoine in September, 2024.

Elizabeth will paint nine medium size portraits.

The family members in the portraits may be juxtaposed to one another from an earlier time and
a current time, bringing a historical reference piece into the present time.
